Hungkuang University, initially established the Hungkuang Junior College of Nursing, was founded in 1967 by Dr. Yu-Lin Wang with the mission of “Caring for Humanity, Cherishing Life”, In response to changes and needs of the times, the school was elevated to Hungkuang Institute of Technology in 1997 and to the Hungkuang University in 2003. Currently there are 4 colleges: College of Nursing, College of Medical and Health Care, College of Human Science and Social Innovation , College of Intelligent Technology.
These 4 colleges support 18 departments, 7 graduate institutes, and 1 doctoral program. The university has a student body of 13,000. The university is not only recognized as a leader in Taiwan for health and human welfare, it also runs as affiliated Hospital for Elderly Care and three affiliated preschools.

INTEGRATING PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND A HUMANISTIC SPIRIT
The instructional approach at Hungkuang focuses on helping students develop both professional skills and humanistic literacy, core goals in the fields of medicine and nursing, health care, and human sciences. In order to elevate students ‘ humanistic education, the College of General Education was established. Combining a liberal arts general education with professional courses across the curriculum, professionals are raised with an altruistic spirit.
Practical teaching and core competency development are highlighted in this curriculum. Every department requires off-campus internships and actively promotes overseas internships. Students practice their professional skills and knowledge in the United States, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Cambodia. Graduates, emboldened with excellent knowledge and competency, have high employment rates and are well-recognized for their outstanding performance by employers.
EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
The university actively encourages faculty to carry out research bridging the gap between academia and industry. Our achievements include: the 3 labs associated with the Testing and Analysis Center for Food and Cosmetics are all TAF accredited (Biology for Laboratory ,Chemistry for Laboratory, and Laboratory for Gene Detection); established a quality management system in accordance with ISO 17025 standards; ranks first nationally for academic- industrial research grants for medical and healthcare projects; implemented the MOE project for a “Model University of Science and Technology”; establishment of the first OSCE center in central Taiwan; the first in the country to receive HACCP certification for the Baking Training Factory; established a Cosmetic Innovation and Research Center that has earned ISO 22716 Cosmetics-GMP certification.
DYNAMIC GLOBAL INTERACTION
HKU has established beneficial partnerships with 145 universities worldwide and recruited international students and trainees from various backgrounds. The international student body is currently about 700. In addition to recruiting degree-seeking students, we offer customized skill-training programs to meet different professional and industrial needs, such as nursing, healthcare management, pre-school education, vocational education, and cosmetic medicine.
While domestic students are encouraged to participate in various global mobility programs to enhance global vision and competiveness, students from our partner universities are welcome to fulfill academic requirements and experience the local customs of Taichung at HKU through dual-degree study, exchange programs, internships, and short-term training programs.
Freshmen Scholarships: The scholarships will be awarded accoridng to students’ English results.
