NKUST was established in 2018 by the merger of National Kaohsiung Marine University, National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences and National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology. It is now the largest university of science and technology in Taiwan. NKUST has adopted the following three directions for development, including “strong connections with industries”, “innovation and entrepreneurship” and “ocean technology” to create an environment where the industry and academia could collaborate to meet local needs by cultivating pragmatic, innovative and entrepreneurial talents that are tailored for the industry and cross-disciplinary cooperation.
Aimed at becoming the biggest top-notch university of science and technology in Taiwan, the most important mission of NKUST involves striving “for the BEST” by serving as the think tank (“Brain”) of Kaohsiung, the engine (“Engine”) of industries, the base of the southbound plan (“South”) and an integrated campus (“Together”) to create its value. In terms of talent cultivation, NKUST hopes to equip all students with the capacity of WISH, namely a “Whole Person” with cross-disciplinary ability, “International Mobility”, “Sustainable Learning” and “Humanity.”
