Chinese Language Courses   Suitable Leaners •Current high school students in Surabaya and high school graduates. •International student admission generally requires B1 Mandarin level for Taiwanese universities.   Course Feature 1 •Small classes emphasize teacher-student interactions. •A class size of not more than 15-25 students.    Course Feature 2 •Courses are divided by Mandarin level for gradual and practical learning. •Courses available for Mandarin learners target those without any prior knowledge to those at an intermediate level. •Courses are listed and taught depending on Mandarin level. •Prior to entering the school, students must participate in the level examination of the CEFR (The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) •Courses are primarily taught in Mandarin and use pinyin with English as a supplement. •All Mandarin courses consist of training four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.   Course Feature 3  •Mandarin courses combine both language and culture components. •Taiwan and Chinese culture is primal in all Mandarin courses.   Course Feature 4 •Diverse class schedules in course offering. •Intensive courses are The A1 curriculum is suitable for high school graduates and can be completed in 1.5 months of full-day classes lasting six hours. •Evening courses require three hours each night and are suitable for current high school students; every level can be completed in three months.   A1 (CEFR) Novice Low (ACTFL) Vocabulary: 450 words Learning hours: 200 Main Textbook: A Course in Contemporary Chinese (I)   A2 (CEFR) Novice Mid (ACTFL) Vocabulary: 1000 words Learning hours: 200 Main Textbook: A Course in Contemporary Chinese (II)   B1 (CEFR) Novice High-Intermediate Low(ACTFL) Vocabulary:2000-3000 words  Learning hours: 200 Main Textbook: A Course in Contemporary Chinese (III)   Mandarin Level Descriptors (A1) •To acquire basic Mandarin vocabulary and become familiar with methods of daily expressions (e.g.: greetings, introductions, interests, and numbers).  •Be able to use basic Mandarin vocabulary to communicate with others.   Mandarin Level Descriptors (A2) •To understand sentences, common phrases, and communicate with others in daily life and surroundings e.g.: personal and family information, shopping, work, and Taiwan’s geography). •Be able to read short articles.   Mandarin Level Descriptors (B1) •Be able to perceive and respond to standard and clear information on occasions of workplace, school and leisure venues. •To acquire basic writing ability.   Mandarin Course Content   A1 •Course Aim: This course is designed to assist learners in experiencing the joy of interacting with others using Mandarin when studying in Taiwan. •Course Content: The application of basic conversations in various aspects of daily life, such as those related to; clothing, food, housing, transportation, and recreation. For instance, learn to use Mandarin to introduce yourself, family, interests, shopping, street food, position, location, and time, transportation, and the appearance of people or objects. •Learning Activities: Conversations, grammar explanations, exercises, classroom activities, cultural introductions and events.   A2 •Course Aim: This course is designed to assist learners in gaining a better understanding of Taiwan.  •Course Content: Aside from more difficult conversations, the course also includes reading short articles. Themes focus on topics that apply to daily life. For example: how to use Mandarin to express the desire of becoming an oversea student studying in Taiwan, travelling via ride the high-speed railway and MRT, and describing experiences in part-time jobs. Also, the course will introduce cultural aspects such as festivals, holidays, activities, and wedding banquets. •Learning Activities: Conversations, grammar explanations, exercises, classroom activities, cultural introductions and events.
